and background sets her apart from the rest. She inherits three distinct
cultures; African American, Native American, and Irish. Her favorite
feature is her eyes. She is unsure of exactly why she likes them, she
just does. Beauty, to her, is how one perceives his or her self. She continues,
“others can tell you you’re ugly, pretty, or point out your flaws but it is up
to you to chose to believe it or not.” When I asked her if she had any advice
for females struggling with accepting their beauty, she was very honest with me
and I appreciate that truthfulness. We are all only human and we are at times
vulnerable. From what Ta’Te’Auna’s told me, she’s still struggling to accept her
beauty and even understand herself. When I later asked her why she chose her
eyes as her most distinct feature, she replied that they are something that
draws herself in. She tries to understand herself through them but according to
her they are difficult to read thus difficult to pin point why she likes them so
much. As much of a struggle it is for her to accept her beauty at times, it shouldn’t
stop others from accepting who they are and not change themselves for anyone.
“You look how you look so do not let other people persuade you to change.”
