I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break and weekend. Even though Thanksgiving is over, I am thankful for my friends, family, and the new people I meet everyday. I am also thankful for my home, food, and the amazing resources that I am so lucky enough to have. Everyone has something they should be thankful for and if you can’t think of one then remind yourself that you woke up this morning and that you are a living and breathing human being.
It’s funny how a day that’s supposed to be spent with family to recognize all the amazing things that you are so fortunate to have, is hi-jacked by Black Friday which roles around and practically undermines that sense of appreciation. I believe the sales no longer even start on the Friday after Thanksgiving. A majority begin the evening of Thanksgiving. Those two days and Cyber Monday are the days that companies get richer because people buy an obscene quantity of items they probably wouldn’t have bought if it was one of those days. I’m all for getting a good deal but I hope nobody went overboard and maxed out their credit cards.
I’ve said this already but advertisements and the media have such an impact on our society, that we will go to great lengths to get more stuff or look a certain way. By nature we’re consumers. Hopefully we will recognize are unhealthy desires before it further damages our species. But I genuinely hope everyone had a good restful break before the closing month of 2013. I am already ready for a new year. Are you?
