I know, two posts ago I talked about the 2014 Academy Awards, now today it was the 2015 Academy Awards and I have to mention my favorite moments. I think I should give props to myself for getting this post in within hours of the end of the show. There was a couple amazing moments on one of the “most beautiful nights broadcasted on television.” Although I can’t quite get all the videos of these brilliant moments just yet because it did just air under a few hours, I do intend on posting them shortly when they are available. The first memorable moment and most likely top favorite, is the amazing performance of the original song “Glory” for the movie “Selma” by Common and John Legend. It was a remarkable and truthful composition that resonated in past and present emotions of issues in race. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the whole place after that song and the standing ovation it received was absolutely fitting. And it got better after that! Within just minutes of performing, the two won Oscars for the Original Song category. What blew me away was the eloquence of what Common, or Lonnie Rashid Lynn, mentioned about free form of expression in France, the movement towards democracy in Hong Kong, and what happened in Ferguson Missouri. My next favorite and quite stirring speech was the one by Graham Moore, winner for Best Adapted Screenplay for “The Imitation Game,” who spoke of his attempt to kill himself when he was a teenager, how real depression is, and of how it’s okay to be weird and different. Patricia Arquette, winner of the Best Supporting Actress in the movie “Boyhood” in her portrayal of a working mother and in her speech she vocalizes the need for pay equality. And finally, the last bit of Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu speech for winning the Best Picture for “Birdman” and his shout out to his fellow Mexican immigrants to be treated with the same dignity and respect as those who came before them. It was truly a beautiful evening at the Oscars.
Well it took some time but I've compiled the videos that I mentioned above. I'm sorry that the quality of some of them aren't great because unfortunately the Academy of Motion Pictures' YouTube page hasn't uploaded any of the footage from this years Oscars. All these videos below do not belong to me, but to their rightful owners. Also there's a bonus video that I found on BuzzFeed that I thought was interesting. Enjoy.
