I realize that it is well over a month since I have posted. This is not because of lack of ideas, topics, or events relevant to embracing true beauty; it’s just that I had a firsthand encounter of some real “March Madness.” The month went by so slow and so fast at the same time. And honestly, the last two week hit me hard. To recap briefly, it was my birthday month, I had my internship at my college health center at least once every week, not to mention volunteering for a service fair, midterms for chemistry and calculus, and the most time consuming of all- preparation for a Culture Show. I know that was not as brief as I had hoped it would be. To elaborate a little bit on the Culture Show; I am a member of the African Student Organization on my college campus. What we do is create a community of Africans and non-Africans interested in embracing the African culture and presence on campus. We had this huge show displaying all the countries in Africa and presenting different fashions, dances, foods, and just all types of entertainment related to Africa. It was our way of showing how big and beautiful our African community is because in college you kind of loose your cultural identity because you’re so far away from home, where you’re used to embracing some tradition. We even had two very well known African comedians from the East Coast come out to California to MC our big event. It was pleasure working in planning, being behind the scenes, and being in the show because I got to see this whole production, after months of preparation, happen.
In celebration of embracing cultures, related to my theme of different forms of beauty, I found these great videos related to the topic. They emphasize how different cultures and countries see beauty. This pertains to both men and women because they each have their own distinct beautiful qualities as does the race and ethnicity, physical features, and personality of any person.
I do realize these are all BuzzFeed videos, I guess they’re just more aware of the span of followers they have and that’s great. I’d also like to say great job to Mihaela Noroc, creator of “The Atlas of Beauty” and the blog http://theatlasofbeauty.com/. I’m sure it was a fantastic experience because it’s such a great idea. Please do check out the blog!

What's interesting is that both men and women used to talking about other women's appearances, but as a society we've increasing been doing the same for men. It's now almost expected for a man to have very chiseled body features in order to be considered attractive or masculine. This is something to consider.
